Contempt

When a person is not following orders that the court has made instructing them to do something, they are in violation of that court order.  They may be held in “contempt of court” for not doing what they were ordered to do.  This could include not paying child support, not paying arrears payments, not paying medical bills, making decisions without talking with the other parent if the parents have joint custody.

If a person is not following a court ordered placement schedule, there is another process called Enforcement of Physical Placement when the schedule is court ordered and specific (not “reasonable times upon reasonable notice”).

If your placement schedule is “reasonable times upon reasonable notice” and you are not able to see your child, you may want to consider changing your court order to ask for a specific placement schedule.  (See Modification or Parenting Conferences).
